Two internationally renowned scholars, AbdouMaliq Simone and Diane Davies, will discuss the governance challenges of cities in Africa and Latin America – the provisionality, informality, promise and violence that characterise the organisation of urban life in much of the world today.

This double lecture marks the conclusion of the first phase of the project ‘Understanding the Dynamics of Urban Flexibility and Reconstruction’, sponsored by the Oxford Programme for the Future of Cities.

The Future of Cities 2011

Date:
Mon, 28/02/2011 (All day)

Cities face many challenges - economic, climate, resources, infrastructure and demographic.

As centres of innovation, can cities produce the solutions they need to tackle them?

As the bulk of the world's population will be in fast-growing large urban areas by 2050, do the powers that cities have need to be re-thought?

This two day conference (28th Feb - 1st March) will address these questions, among others, at Chatham House in London. Registration is essential for this event.
