Patricia Canelas

Dr Patricia Canelas joined the University of Oxford as a Departmental Lecturer for the Sustainable Urban Development Programme at the end of 2019. She is an architect and an urban planner, with a PhD in Planning from UCL; an M.Arch in Sustainable Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley; a postgrad degree in Sustainable Urban Design and Architecture from Católica University; and a degree in Architecture from Universidade Lusíada. Prior to her academic work, she has worked for 10 years as an architect and urban designer gaining significant knowledge in design, planning and property markets. As an academic, she has held academic positions at the BSP, UCL; at the Henley Business School, University of Reading; and at University Católica in Lisboa. Patricia has been involved in international research projects in China, the US, Portugal, the Netherlands and the UK. Her research seeks to advance knowledge on the forces that shape the power dynamics at play in property markets and urban governance, particularly considering the rising importance of cities and the built environment as investment vehicles.
